About this work
Interlocking grids and concentric circles
Shelly Bremmer builds this square image using a dense arrangement of geometric shapes that fill the entire surface. The composition follows a flat perspective where every element sits on the same plane. A large set of concentric circles sits just above the middle of the work, acting as a central anchor for the surrounding grid. Rectangles, squares, and triangles lock together across the field, while parallel lines and bars repeat along the edges to create a sense of steady movement.
The colors move through a range of reds, oranges, purples, blues, and greens. Each colored section has a mottled texture rather than a solid, flat tone. Small circles and thin linear bars appear inside various rectangular blocks, repeating the shapes found in the larger central area. These smaller details are tucked into the corners and sides, ensuring that every part of the interlocking pattern contains a variety of different geometric forms.
