About Shelly.

Working from my studio in Rhode Island, I have always been drawn to the way geometry can capture a mood. My early explorations were about finding a rhythmic dance between structure and play. I wanted to see if I could make a static image feel like it was moving, twirling in a sort of modern harmony that felt both nostalgic and fresh. In works like Twirl and Wave , I began to experiment with how lines could bend and interact. These pieces laid the foundation for my style, focusing on funky patterns and the complex shapes that have become a signature of my practice. I realized that by layering these forms, I could create a sense of joyful balance.

As my practice evolved, I became more interested in the structural layers of my subjects. I started visualizing the world through a lens of geometric abstraction, breaking down everyday concepts into something more disjointed yet harmonious. Pieces like Stairway 4 and Playground 2 reflect this desire to build complex, multi-dimensional spaces out of flat, retro-inspired colors. I find that there is a specific energy in a playful color palette. By using shades that feel slightly vintage, I can ground my more abstract experiments like Build 2.0 in a sense of warmth. It is about finding the point where a pattern becomes a language, telling a story through its own internal logic and movement.

Lately, my focus has shifted toward the process itself—the way a design can evolve through constant fluctuation. I am constantly looking for new ways to splice shapes together to see what kind of energy they release. Works like Process and Perspective are direct results of this curiosity, where I allow the geometry to dictate the final form. I continue to return to the idea of a funky, modern harmony. Whether I am working on Orbit or Fluctuation , the goal remains the same: to create a visual experience that feels both intricate and lighthearted. My work is a constant exploration of how many layers a single moment can hold while still feeling balanced and bright.
